SAVE THE CHILDREN DELIVERS PPEs TO NAMPULA GOVERNMENT

Save the Children delivered today, to the Government of Nampula, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) against COVID-19 consisting of more than 18 thousand units, including surgical gloves, examination and heavy-duty gloves, nurses' dens, protective overalls with and without face shield, goggles, simple face masks and N95 facial masks and boots.

The act took place in the Provincial Directorate of Social Affairs of Nampula, chaired by the representative of the Director of that department, Geraldino Avalinho, for whom the gesture has an inestimable character and value in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic because it takes into account the protection of people who have a duty to save lives, namely doctors, nurses and auxiliary staff in health facilities.

The delivery was made by Save the Children's Acting Provincial Program Director in Nampula, Judas Massingue. Massingue said: “We are dealing with an evil that is still little known and that is why we believe that all the contribution and collaboration are crucial for the reduction of risk as well as for the provision of effective and adequate services to those affected, with special focus on underprivileged groups, especially children ”.

Save the Children has been collaborating with the Government on several fronts to combat COVID-19 through direct interventions in the areas of influence of its projects, as well as in strengthening the Government's capacity to anticipate preventive measures. It supports information and awareness-raising initiatives and provides protective equipment at various operational levels of the government, in addition to technical support through working groups established at central, provincial and district levels.

Contributing to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic is part of Save the Children's mandate in Mozambique, as underlined by Judas Massingue:

“The individual attitude of each one of us can have a positive or, unfortunately, negative impact on the health of the community and that is why Save the Children has been guided by an educational attitude so that we all act responsibly in efforts to fight the disease. Together with the Government, we have been multiplying actions aimed at combating the pandemic through public awareness initiatives and interventions aimed at strengthening the capacities of communities and the Government to fight this evil”.

From April to the present, Save the Children has assisted close to One Million and Four Hundred Thousand people in the provinces of Maputo, Gaza, Sofala, Mania, Tete, Zambézia, Nampula and Cabo Delgado, as a result of adapting their projects to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in Mozambique.

With the current 5,994 current cases, the pandemic in Mozambique is not receding and with this phenomenon the number of people with complications and needing hospitalization increases, as well as an increase in the number of deaths associated with the disease.
