Registration is also a priority!
Among several obstacles that embarrass adherence to birth registration, we also find aspects related to migration. In which, although unconsciously, parents end up marginalizing that children’s right, due to the need and concern of having to change of residence or to move in looking for job opportunities.
The situation is specifically shared by the child's parents Almeida Lopes. This child, who was only registered at 1 year and 8 months of age, as a result of clarification on the importance of birth registration, carried out in daily conversations by community leaders, also clarified on the basic aspects of civil registration (specifically birth and death registration).
Lopes, an eventual constructionon worker, father of Almeida, explains that he did not register his son at birth due to the priority of moving from his homeland (Inhambane) to Maputo for looking for better opportunities and sustainability for his family.
At the place of arrival, Lopes learned "registration is also a priority", because there was already the community leadership sharing in formal and informal conversations information about the importance of prompt registration.
Now resident of the Ngodlhoza neighborhood in Maputo province, Lopes already knows how much priority should also be given to birth registration and says "registration to ensure the rights of my child. So when it comes time to go to school, treat identity card as well as other documents, we'll already be on the way. With this, I feel happy and I tell other parents that we should register our children for our well-being".
At the initiative of #Government_of_Mozambique, funded by #Canadian_Government through #UNICEF and with support from #SavetheChildren and partners, we mobilize and raise awareness of adherence to birth and death registers (eCRVS). #NasceuRegistou!
